A word about Niko and hearts

Niko carries one copy of DCM1. We're the ones telling you.

Carrying one copy of the DCM1 gene variant does not cause disease. Heart disease from DCM1 requires two copies — one from each parent. Niko, with one copy, has a healthy heart. He is a carrier, not affected.

We pair Niko only with dams who test DCM1-clear. That means every puppy in a Niko litter is either DCM1-clear or a single-copy carrier — never affected. The science here is straightforward, and we'll walk you through the actual results at any point.

Removing every carrier dog from the Doberman gene pool would narrow an already thin breed. What matters is responsible pairing — and that's what this is. A breeder who won't show you the complicated result is hiding everything else too.

Every Niko puppy receives a full Embark DNA panel before families are contacted. The results go directly to you. [NEEDS_FROM_BRITTANY: confirm Envy and Nala DCM1 status for the pairing claim]

Cardiac Echo

Cardiac Echo

OFA cardiac evaluation on file

After you go home

One more thing we recommend.

Starting around age two, we recommend an annual cardiac echo as a baseline for your dog. It's about a 30-minute ultrasound — quick and painless — and it catches anything early.

[PLACEHOLDER: named cardiologist in Chattanooga or Northwest Georgia — ask us for who we use.]

Results can be submitted publicly to OFA.org. Search “High Point” under Doberman Pinscher to see what's already on file.
